1. Make sure you know the FTP/Port port first, create an account on the server
2. Start up Eclipse with RSE
3. Go to Window -> Open Perspective -> Remote System Explorer to bring up Remote Systems Panel
4. Expand SSH/FTP node(s) if you created them already, otherwise, please refer to XXXXXX to create an FTP or SSH connection, your Remote Systems panel will look like this:
5. For FTP right click Files node under your FTP root node and choose properties from context menu, for SSH you can click on Sftp Files, Ssh Shells or Ssh Terminals node. You will now be presented the following dialog:
6. Select Subsystem node on the left panel of the properties dialog, note the port field on the right side of the dialog, change the value to whatever port you have in hand (see above image for details)
7. Click OK to accept the changes you just made, and right click FTP/SSH node and choose connect, now you should be able to connect to your FTP/SSH server

4. Let’s first bring up the RSE Explorer, go to Eclipse Window -> Open Perspective -> Remote System Explorer, if you don’t see it, then do Eclipse Window -> Open Perspective -> Other. From Open Perspective dialog select Remote System Explorer and click OK
5. Now you should see a default “Local” Connector Service in Eclipse RSE explorer, from here you can navigate through your local systems such as home, and different drives
   
6. Let’s right click Remote Systems panel and choose New -> Connection from the popup menu
7. There are a few remote system types available in select remote system types dialog, select SSH Only
   
8. On “Remote SSH Only System Connection” dialog, fill in the necessary information such as hostname and connection name, either click Next or Finish. If you want to modify settings for SFTP, Shell and Terminal, then click Next, otherwise, Click Finish
9. Now your eclipse RSE will look like this:
   
10. Select the Connector node you just created from Remote Systems panel and choose “connect”, this will pop up Enter Password dialog. Enter your username and password and click OK. You should now be logged in
11. Your Remote Systems panel should now look like the following, note the little green arrows appear for SFTP, Shells and Terminals nodes, that means you are logged onto your SSH server, and you should be able to access your system through Eclipse RSE now
    
12. Right click either Shells or Terminals and choose Launch Shell/Terminal. A new Remote Shell or Terminal should appear (see next 2 images for details). Now you can type in any commands just like you are in your favorite terminals

13. To quit remote shell, you can just click on the red square button on the top right corner of the shell panel. Or expand Shells or Terminals nodes to select the shell/terminal node to cancel or remove
14. To disconnect from your SSH server, right click the connector service node in Remote Systems panel and choose disconnect, this will end your SSH connection

With Eclipse RSE, you can also remotely create files, open/edit and save them from within Eclipse. Eclipse knows what editors to use to open the files for you.

Here is how you can add directory aliases to Filezilla server:

Start Filezilla server interface, click the user/group button on the menu bar, create a user/group if you don’t have one already.

Then select Shared folders from the left panel, and select a user/group from the right panel

Now in the middle panel you can add a few different directories pointing to wherever you want, but if you try to log onto your FTP server now, you will only see the root directory. All other directories are hidden from you since you haven’t added any aliases yet.

Right click one of the directories other than home directory (denoted by a leading H) and choose Edit Aliases from popup menu. In Enter Directory Alias dialog enter the alias for that directory with a leading slash “/”. For example, /pub or /etc. (Don’t try to create nested aliases such as /pub/documents/engineering, I had never got this work for me. If you can please let me know)

Next click OK to close Enter Directory Alias dialog, add more directory aliases as you want.

Once you are done with that, click OK on Users/Groups dialog to make the changes take effect

You should now be able to navigate to different directories from your FTP clients

If you logged in and visit your wordpress stat page using this link http://<YOUR_USERNAME>.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats or moving your mouse over your wordpress.com admin “My Account” menu and clicking stat, you will be presented with wodpress.com’s statistics page. There are 7 sections: Pageviews Graphs(daily, weekly and monthly), Referrers, Top Posts & Pages, Search Engine Terms, Clicks, Blog Stat and Incoming Links. We will see how to view more history data for Referrers, Top Posts & Pages, Search Engine Terms, Clicks.

As mentioned above, WordPress.com currently only displays 7 days history data for wordpress bloggers, but this limit can be modified through changing URLs on your browser’s location bar. Note the system currently only allows for a max of 9 days’ result to be returned and default to 7 days, here is how:

Note numdays=7, this parameter is used to inform wordpress of how many days it should return Referrers, you can give any value to this variable but the system will only return you maximum 9 days result, smart ah. If you specify a big number, then wordpress will basically just trunk the list to cover only latest 9 days, don’t be discouraged, this is better than 7 days. And plus you can always click a day on the flash graph to display that day’s statistics.

You don’t have to be an expert to use some of the tools available from Microsoft or third parties. Most of us know Process Manager and you use it to kill processes, don’t you know Process Manager doesn’t really show you all the processes running on your windows system, such as those windows services and system processes. If you can find your process from Process Manager, then you can select the process by right click and choose kill, this process will go away. Be warned that some of the system processes should not be killed unless you really want to do so, otherwise, your system will also be killed and shutdown.

There is another tools from Microsoft called Process Explorer:

The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you’ll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you’ll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded.

Pretty useful tools to kill processes and its child processes. It’s very similar to Process Manager but with more information available. You know sometimes one process can spawn one or more processes, if you only kill the parent process, then you left its child processes running as zombie processes. Similar to Process Manager you can kill the process tree so that it will clean up all processes that you really want to kill.

Open Flash Chart, is open source. It is free to use and you get the source code to fiddle with!

then How does it work?

1. User browses to your web site.
2. The browser downloads the web page which contains the Open Flash Chart.
3. Open Flash Chart downloads the data file and displays the chart.

It sounds pretty easy, right? However, I had to spend quite sometime finding out the download link from Open Flash Chart’s homepage. I did try to click other links to see which one is going to take me to the download page, the page seems very sneaky though, and finally I clicked the one at the top right corner of the page which led me to the login page of sourceforge.net and I have to do a search from to get the very download page. I am sure some of you encountered the same issue as I did. Here I’d like to write down what I experienced so that my experience could benefit others.

First the homepage of Open Flash Chart is here, which actually is the documentation page. I guess you will have to stay there for a while to read and understand how Open Flash Chart works

Secondly, go to sourceforge.net to download the packge and follow the tutorial to install the package.

The next thing you need to do is test it out before going further. I encounterd another problem here since I didn’t really follow the tutorial on creating the test page, I guess it’s my fault. Anyhow, here is what I encountered, I simply created “chart.php” and pasted the following code in the php assuming you put Open Flash Chart under your server’s root like Apache’s htdocs/open-flash-chart:

With this code only, your browser is totally blank, cuz flash really doesn’t like the HTML snippet generated by open_flash_chart_object, because it doesn’t contain HTML tags. I had to spend sometime to figure this out, so the fix is to have the following:

Now you should see either a chart or a flash with a message similar to the following:

If you don’t see anything, then you need to read the tutorial again to make sure you strictly follow it.

Note you may have to change above code to using either a single quote or double quote to follow PHP convention if the code doesn’t quite work

Basically Eclipse’s JSDT (Javascript Development Toolkit) is not ready for any good use, I only gave it a few trys and then gave up. Here are the causes:

1. It complains about javascript global variables such as document, window, navigator from javascript code/functions
2. It complains “Can’t make a static reference to the non-static function” when you define a variable of javascript classes and try to access their member functions.
3. It also complains when using alert function. I guess it will complain when you use other built-in functions
4. It doesn’t quite support code completion as claimed
5. I didn’t even try to try the debugging features because of above issues

For comparison, I installed Netbeans IDE and am using the latest Dev build, I didn’t try Netbeans 6.1 release because I will have to install PHP plugin to have good support of javascript, plus I also read NetBeans 6.5 (Milestones) has good support of it. Based on what I see, support of javascript in Netbeans 6.5 is much better than Eclipse although it also has its own issues. for example, one drawback is it currently only supports firefox, another is to make it work you have to install both firefox NetBeans extension and firebug add-ons. But Netbeans works fine regarding the above Eclipse issues:

1. It works perfectly with javascript global variables such as document, window, navigator.
2. It really works when defining a variable of javascript classes and trying to access their member functions.
3. Code completion works without any issues, plus it’s very quick on popping up the suggestions
4. Javascript collection objects (such as document.forms) work fine
5. It supports both local and URL debugging. I did’nt try it though

Finally, both Netbeans and Eclipse support code format, so reading javascript code is getting easier with both. Otherwise, you will have to use other tools to accomplish this type of tasks.

As of this writing, Netbeans is the best IDE that I’ve used for Javascript programming so far. I hope it will also help many others too.

Installing them is very simple. If you know how to manually install Eclipse plugin, then you are all set, just unzip the plugin into eclipse’s plugins directory or copy the jar file that directory.

After installing it, you need to restart eclipse. Then go to “Window->Preferences->General->Appearance” and change “Current presentation” to a Presentation that you like, now you need to restart eclipse again.

After it’s up and you can go to preference and select a theme to best suit your taste. You are warned there are not many themes available though, ha, better than nothing.

You are all done, enjoy it!

I am not sure if it’s included in any 3.3.x releases but I know we should be able to install it just like any other eclipse plugins. Out of the box, you can use RSE to browse through your local system. And you can also easily set up an FTP connection to an FTP server, and then you are ready to use it just with any other FTP clients such as Filezilla client, CuteFTP and FTPExplorer.

Ok, let’s get started on installing DStore Server for remote system explorer.

Install a DStore server for Eclipse remote access:

1. First, make sure you have Eclipse 3.4 (Ganymede) J2EE installed. If not you can download it from eclipse.org. Or you can install it using Eclipse Software Update Manager pointing to http://ganymede-mirror2.eclipse.org/dsdp/tm/updates/3.0/. Select the RSE SDK feature, and perform the update process as usual
2. Install Dstore Server on your system, I am using Windows XP. Go to Target Management project RSE downloads to pick up a build, I am selecting 3.0. On the next page, scroll down to click rseserver-3.0-windows.zip for Windows platform to start downloading. After download is complete, unzip it into a directory.
3. Double click daemon.bat to start the daemon. We will just use the default configuration. You can modify the configuration such as port number and timeout
4. Now your Dstore Server is ready to serve your requests just like a normal terminal

To connect to a remote DStore server:

1. Open Eclipse’s Remote System Explorer perspective
2. Right click to bring up the context menu and choose “New Connection”,
3. Choose Windows and fill in hostname on next page
4. Set DStore server’s settings as shown in the picture:

   

5. Now, right click the connection you just created and choose “connect” from the context menu. It may complain The connection is not SSL secured. Ignore the message and proceed by clicking “OK”
6. Now you can click “Files” to browse the system files and directories.
7. Or you can also launch a shell by right click “Shells” and choose to start working on shell. You can type any your system commands to see what happens.

1. Download Zen-Cart and unzip it into a directory wherever you like. It doesn’t have to be under apache’s htdocs
2. Create a MySQL database and its corresponding DB account for your Zen Cart. If you have access to phpMyAdmin, then you can do a google/yahoo search on that. It should be pretty easy. The error specifically points out that database error Incorrect integer value: '' for column 'brand'

So next let’s take a look at the definition of the field “brand” in <PREFIX>product_list table which is defined as bigint(20) not nullable, and therefore you must specify a value for this field, and empty/null is not allowed. Here is the line you need to modify in WP e-commerce (defined in display_items.php and line number is around 530) to make the update work:

As highlighted in red, $wpdb->escape($_POST['brand']) may be empty for our updates, therefore, we must validate it. We will set it to 0(zero) if it’s emty:

Tip #1: Add [showcategories] to your post or page wherever you want it to go, WordPress engine will figure out how to replace this by the corresponding product category list

Tip #2: Calling nzshpcrt_display_categories_groups() function directly. This function is defined in products_page.php. There are a few references to it in this release. Here are:

Tip #3: Calling show_cats_brands() directly. Well, this is the core to showing categories. You definitely need to take a look at this function if your changes won’t work. This function is defined in show_cats_brands.php, and here is the signature:

• Start to write a new post or page, or edit an existing post/page
• Click any one of “Add Media” buttons (Add an Image, Add Video, Add Audio and Add Media) which is located on the top of post/page editor

• After upload is done, click “Gallery” tab and scroll to the bottom, and press “insert gallery into post”
• Or you can just close the upload window after completing upload, and add to your post or page

• Start to write a new post or page, or edit an existing post/page

• Make sure you have chosen “Flash uploader” instead of “Browser upload”.

2. Create a MySQL database and a corresponding database account for oscommerce. If you have access to phpMyAdmin, then you can do a google/yahoo search on that. It should be pretty easy. remember that you don’t have to use phpMyAdmin, you can also use MySQL client or any other tools
3. I am assuming you want to have http://www.yourdomain.com, so let’s create an Apache virtual host, please make sure you enable and set up apache virtual hosts (do a search on this topic)

Database Name: the oscommerce database name

5. Make sure that the permissions on all of the folders are set to 755, and both includes/configure.php and admin/includes/configure.php are set to 777 for the duration of your installation. Once the installation is done, change their permissions to 644. On windows platform change <OSCOMMERCE-DIR>/catalog/includes/configure.php to readonly
6. Remove <OSCOMMERCE-DIR>/catalog/install directory after the installation is complete. Or back it up
7. Finally create your administrator account
8. Now visit your new site at http://www.yourdomain.com

I will try to comment on how easy the software can be customerized for different themes/templates

Update: Change the code font-size

1. Start AoA Audio Extractor
2. Press “Add Files” to add your videos or drag-n-drop your videos onto the extractor
3. Choose your output option as either “To MP3″ or “To WAV” or “To AC3″
4. And set Audio bitrate, sample rate and Channel accordingly
5. Set the output directory
6. Press the start button to extract audios

That’s it

• Load your video into MMM
• Drag and drop your movie clip(s) onto Storyboard/Timeline pane
• Expand video task options in Timeline pane to show video task (Video, Transition and Audio)
• Right click anywhere in the Audio row of your video and choose mute, this will disable the video’s audio
• Now you can either Narrating your video or add an audio for your video

You are warned that the whole audio is muted. If you only want to edit some part of the audio, then you will have to extract the audio first, then edit your audio accordingly

First let’s see what video formats iPod is supporting:

• H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
• H.264 video, up to 768 kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
• MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

Now let’s start SUPER and work on it:

1. Drag and drop your video(s) onto SUPER UI. If you didn’t start it yet, please do it now
2. Set video scale size to 320:240. Choose the right one for your iPod. If yours is not listed, then check “More” checkbox to input your iPod’s size
3. For aspect ratio, no changes since it’s auto set
4. Frame/Sec set to 30 frames per sec
5. Set bitrate to 1248 Kbps and check Video’s “48 K audio” option
6. Use auto set Sampling freq for audio
7. check 2 channels’ checkbox, this makes it stereo
8. Audio bitrate set to 96 kbps
9. Right click the video file to set where you want to save the encoded file, and it’s default to <SUPER INSTALL DIR>/Output
10. Press “Encode (Active files)” to start encoding, go and have a cup of coffee, it may take long time to encode and it completely depends on how long your video(s) is/are

Once you have videos converted from other sources, it’s time to import them into your iPod by following these steps:

1. Start iTunes.
2. Select Movies from iTune Library section.
3. Select File->Import and choose the movie and import into iTunes.
4. Select the movie and right click to bring up the context popup menu, then select “Add to playlist” and choose a playlist to add. If you don’t have a playlist, then create one by go to File/New playlist
5. Sync your iPod with iTunes.

Here is the list of articles I looked at and learned how to use these free available softwares to extract still images for my videos. By the way, it’s time consuming to go through so many articles online since some of them really don’t help you much.

1. Save a Picture from a Video using Microsoft Movie Maker. Movie maker is available to any of the Microsoft XP and Vista, you get it for free
2. Extract Still Image from DVD Video using VLC player
3. Extracting and Printing Video Stills This article illustrated how to use both Microsoft Movie Maker and VirtualDub (another free video editor available )
4. Extract images from videos using Imagegrab. Personally I didn’t try this software but based on the article it seems to be a decent free software, you can give it a try though
5. Next comes how to extract images and text from flash movie (SWF) . It shows how to extract images and text from flash movie using Movies Extractor Scout
6. How to extract contents from FLV files It uses a software called FLV Extract which is a light application able to extract movie, music and text contents from flv files.

Let’s go back the true topic I want to bring up today: How to make a 3GP mobile video? First, what’s 3 GP thing anyway?

3GP or .3gp is the third generation video standard and is a multimedia container format defined by 3GPP for use on 3G mobile phones. It is a simplified version of MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4). It integrates mp3, mp4, 3gpp, 3g3p and 3g2.

3GP stores video streams as MPEG-4 or H.263, and audio streams as AMR-NB or AAC-LC formats. 3GP files are always big-endian. 3GP also describes image sizes and bandwidth, so content is correctly sized for mobile display screens.

3GP files are viewable on a PC using QuickTime or RealPlayer.

Now how do we make a 3GP video for mobile devices such as iPhone? That’s where SUPER (Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer) comes to play. Well, there are many converters out there why you want to use SUPER though, well, it’s personal choice plus SUPER has many different advantages such as simple, ease-to-use, and support any multimedia files as stated in the site

and start editing your video

1. Start SUPER up, and drag and drop your video onto it
   
2. Now let’s set the output container to “3gp (Nokia/NEC/Siemens)”, output video codec to “H.263″ and output audio codec to “AAC”.
   For VIDEO OPTIONS, do the following:

   • select video scale size.
   • Select Bitrate kbps as 96 or less. The bigger the Bitrate kbps, the larger the 3gp file size.
   • uncheck “Stretch It” if you want.

3. To set the volume click “Other Opts” button to bring up “Other Encode Options” dialog, and adjust the volume accordingly, click the button to hide it
4. To set Audio options, you will work on audio section right below Video section: here are the guidelines:
   * Select Sampling Freq. The bigger the Sampling Freq, the larger the 3gp file size.
* Select Channels. 2 Channels will result in a 10% increase in 3gp file.
* Select Bitrate kbps as 48 or less. The bigger the Bitrate kbps, the larger the 3gp file size.
5. Check the checkbox next to the video file that you want to encode now, and right click to bring up the option dialog, select “Output File Saving Management” to set your output/destination directory
   
6. Make sure the video file(s) that you want to encode is/are checked and press Encode (Active Files) button to start encoding, you will see sgp files saved under your destination directory as specified above

That’s it

First, start Wavepad up. You can download and install it from Wavepad.

Then select “Load Audio CD track(s) …” from File menu, “Load Audio CD track(s)” dialog pops up. Select the track, then click Load button. Wavepad starts ripping the track.

Here I’d like to walk you through the process of creating your own MP3, MP4 and WAV ringtones from your own music collections without paying a penny using WavePad, which you can use for free.

1. Download Wavepad, install only Wavepad unless you need other features such as Express Burn, Express Rip Recrodpad and Switch. Then start it up
2. Locate your music in your system, then drag and drop it onto Wavepad which you just opened. Or you can browse to your file through File/Open File. Then your music will be played, either let it finish or stop it by pressing the stop button at the bottom of the window. I would let it play since we will choose which part of the music to be used for my ringtone.
   
3. Left click somewhere on the music timeline at the bottom (the upper section shows you the entire timeline of the file you are working on. The larger lower section shows you just one song section at a time to make editing easier ) to listen to the music starting from where you just click. Once you decide where to start your editing, you can just stop playing the music.
4. Press and hold your left mouse at the point you pick above and drag your mouse to the right of your music and stop anywhere you want to, Wavepad tells you your selection length using “Sel Length” text field which is located at the lower right corner. Above picture says the during of my selection is 0 since I have’nt done any yet. Note your phone may only support 20 seconds so selecting longer section of music will waste your cell phone memory
5. After making selection, choose “Trim” from Edit menu or Ctrl-T to remove those aren’t selected
6. Now let’s add some effects (Fade in/out) to the beginning and end of your selection, drag your mouse at the very beginning of your selection for a few seconds duration and select Effects/Fade In. Then Select a few seconds at the end of your selection and choose Effects/Fade out.
   Note you can also add one or two seconds of silence by choosing Edit/Insert Silence/Begin or End to your selection
7. Now is time to save your work, choose File menu and “Save file as”, Here are ringtone types you can save:
   MP3 – MPEG Layer-3 (*.mp3)
   MP4 – MPEG-4 Audio (*.m4a)
   WAV – Wave (*.wav)
8. If you choose mp3 as the format for your save, after clicking OK, you will have to configure mp3 settings, you can use the following settings:

This plugin allows you to add whatever you want to the WordPress dashboard through PHP and HTML even Sidebar Widgets. You can also wipe the entire dashboard or individually remove some of the more irritating sections like the Dev news, Planet WordPress and the getting started section.

To make this tip complete, i am adding details on how to use the plugin to disable these features which trouble us:

1. After installing wordpress-dashboard-editor (following the link below to download it from wordpress.org) into your wordpress’ plugin directory, activate it from admin’s plugins page
2. Click “Dashboard” which is located at the top left corner of your admin page
3. Then click “Dashboard Management” submenu, this may take sometime
4. So next let’s disable the following features:
   • Remove Developers news?
   • Remove Planet News
   • Remove WordPress Plugins
   • Remove Incoming Links
   • Remove recent comments
5. Scroll all the way down to the bottom, and press the “Save” button to save your chagnes
6. Now let’s try to see if this helps you by clicking “Dashboard” submenu,

You may notice your wordpress administration page performs very fast after disabling these features using wordpress-dashboard-editor

Here I am providing the fixes so that folks who have the similar issues will benefit from it.

1. Open up wp-shopping-cart.php and go to line 30 or do a search to find the following line:
   define('WPSC_URL', str_replace(ABSPATH, $siteurl.'/', WPSC_FILE_PATH));
   Note that ABSPATH is formatted with a trailing ‘/’, therefore, on different operating systems, this may give you different results. For example, on microsoft windows, this PHP string replacement call will fail and that’s what I see
2. Comment out this line, and we will add the following lines to get the correct WPSC_URL
   define('WPSC_FOLDER', dirname(plugin_basename(__FILE__)));
define('WPSC_URL', get_option('siteurl').'/wp-content/plugins/' . WPSC_FOLDER);

That’s it. I am sure this will also fix many other issues, for example, product photos will be display edcorrectly, in your admin’se-commerce panel, you should have the correct look and feel instead like this one. Now you can even edit product categories and products, without this fix you won’t be able to do so.

1. The plugin tries to load feeds from http://www.instinct.co.nz/feed by making the following call (display_log.php):
   

   $rss = fetch_rss(‘http://www.instinct.co.nz/feed/’);

   You can just comment out this line if you want. This works for me in my development environment.

2. Line 45 at display_log.php contains an Order by which is unnecessary when getting a total, this line can be commented out:
   

   
   $sql = “SELECT COUNT(*) AS `count` FROM `”.$wpdb->prefix.”purchase_logs` WHERE `date`!=” ORDER BY `date` DESC”;
   

3. The other thing that I notice is WP e-commerce is also loading the dashboard page which I am not sure what’s rational behind, so if you really want to get rid of that then you will have to change the code there
4. There may be other places you can tune so that it performs better, please let me know if you notice any so that I can make this tip better and thorough

This image is after I clicked one of the products from the Products page. Note there are 2 images in the Thickbox popup window, this is really weird, the second one is a duplicate. When checking html source of the page, there are 2 Thickbox.js included and both are different versions, therefore, Thickbox is initialized twice when the page is loaded. The odd thing is you don’t always get these 2 images on the same page.

The fix for this is not so easy, I thought I could apply the same principal like what I did in the previous article to fix it, however it didn’t work. Now I am stuck here and going to spend more time to find out a solution for this.
I hope all these insights could help others find a good solution. By the way, I also notice that other softwares such as Pligg have the same compatibility issue Pligg Forum post
I hope someone else can help me on this, please let me know if you have any suggestion. I’d really appreciate it.

Indeed it has some issues, for example, it’s painful when you have to wait for the page to be loaded from internet after clicking on “Gallery” menu, especially when your server has a slow internet access or even when you are trying it from your local machine. What NextGen Gallery does after you click “Gallery” menu is that it tries to check for a new version and load some messages. It depends on the speed of your server’s internet access, it may take fairly long to do, especially when you are working on some of the features of it. I figure out a way to temporarily disable it(not completely remove it. I am not sure if it’s good but at least I don’t have to wait for some time after clicking the menu).

Steps to disable the long loading of NextGen Gallery:

1. Locate admin.php under <YOUR WORDPRESS HOME>/wp-content/plugins/nggallery/admin/wp25 if you are using wordpress 2.5.x, or under <YOUR WORDPRESS HOME>/wp-content/plugins/nggallery/admin
2. Open it with a text editor
3. For wordpress 2.5.x, go to line 142. For other version, go to line 145, and comment it out like:
   // nggallery_admin_overview();
4. For other versions of NextGen Gallery you may just do a search for nggallery_admin_overview(), and comment out the code accordingly

4. Locate “Default Category”, the category dropdown list is located to the right of “Default Category” label
5. Select the category which has products on, and then go to “Products page”, you should see the products belonging to that category
6. Finally, make sure you save your changes by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and press “Submit” button

Then added a few products and associated them with the new product categories, and go to “Products Page”, all I see is:

I figured out that the plugin is only showing these products which are belonging to the “Default Category” (which is 1 in my installation, you can set it to a different category if you have added yours) when rendering “[productspage]“, however, my products are assigned to different category, therefore, the “Products Page” won’t show anything. That’s why they won’t show up in the page. However, I can’t make any modifications to the code to fix it (I would call this “hack” since it may just work locally). So I will try to find a solution from the plugin provider. I will post the solution once I find it. Please let me know if you have any good solution, thanks.

Apache Struts web application development using Oracle9i JDeveloper

1. Buy a USB Digital Audio/Video Cable, I got Accell UltraCam from Frys’, you probably can even order it from online stores. Note it has a USB Mini-B connection on one end and PC/USB USB-A connection on another. Here is the picture of the cable:
   
2. Download USB driver from http://esupport.sony.com. Here are steps on how to get and install the driver:
   1. Go to http://esupport.sony.com
   2. Type in your Sony Camcorder’s model number (DCR HC40) in the section of “Go directly to your Model Home” in the middle of the page, and click “Continue”
   3. On the model home page, locate “Driver & Software Updates” which should be located at the lower right side of the page, and click the link
   4. So now you are on the page of “Driver & Software Updates“, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, and click “Everything” tab, select your operating system from the dropdown, mine is “Microsoft Windows XP”, the content under the dropdown list should be changed to contain Device Driver
   5. Click the download image corresponding to the Device Driver row to download the driver, and save the file to a location that you can easily find
   6. After finishing downloading the driver, double click the downloaded file to open it and extract it to a directory
   7. Go to the directory that you just extracted the fine to, and double click “setup.exe” and this will install the driver to your system. After installing it, you need to restart your computer so that the installation will take effect. So now you are half way to the finish line
3. Set up your camcorder for USB streaming:
   1. Power on your camcorder, and switch to Play/Edit mode
   2. Press “P-Menu” or whatever camcorder menu you see on the LCD screen to bring up the menus
   3. Select “Play/Edit” or “Edit/Play” and press/touch it to show the sub-menus
   4. Scroll down/up untill you see “USB Ply/Edt” and select it
   5. From the list of submenus select “USB Stream“, this will enable USB stream
4. Start Windows Movie Maker, if you don’t have it you must install it somehow
5. Select “Capture Videos” from “Movie Tasks” located at the left side of the window. If you don’t see it you can also open it from File/Capture Video or even press Ctrl-R
6. Click “Capture Video from device“, now click “Start Capture” button. To stop capturing, click “Stop Capture” button
7. Now start playing your video from your camcorder,

That’s it, enjoy importing your lovely videos

I tried to find out a solution from WP e-commerce’s forum, unfortunately there is no one reporting this issue at all. So I am wondering that most of us are not using the latest version of the plugin, so I dig into the code and figure out the plugin is using the latest version of jQuery, I am documenting this here for myself’s later use just in case I forget it and also throw this out so that others can also benefit, so here is what I did to fix the issue:

• Download the latest jQuery from jQuery.com, note I picked jquery 1.2.4
• And upload or copy jquery.js to your wordpress’ jquery’s javascript directory which is under <WORDPRESS INSTALL DIR>/wp-includes/js/jquery. Note that please make a copy of the existing jquery.js before you overwrite it just in case something bad happens although it doesn’t happen to me
• Do a file search under your <WORDPRESS INSTALL DIR> to find all reoccurances of jquery.js. Here is what I got:

  wp-shopping-cart.php(2355):
     wp_enqueue_script( 'jQuery', WPSC_URL.'/js/jquery.js', false, '1.2.3');
  C:\wordpress\wp-includes\script-loader.php(76):
  $this->add( 'jquery', '/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js', false, '1.2.3');
  ...

• replace these highlited version # to ’1.2.4′ if you download jQuery 1.2.4, otherwise, you will have to give what you have.

By now, you should be able to add products to WP e-commerce from the administrator panel
